Vatopedi is situated about 85 km from Thessaloniki. It got its name after the Vatopedi monastery on the Holy Mountain, and it is considered the heart of spirituality of Sithonia. Close to Vatopedi is the biggest women’s monastery in Greece dedicated to the Annunciation, and the monastery of Saint Arsenije. It is a small place with just about 300 inhabitants who are from the Middle East and deal mostly in agriculture and tourism. It spreads from the hills covered with olive groves all the way to the beach, and the Havrias River is particularly interesting. Some of the most beautiful beaches are near by. The Havrias River and the amazing spirituality of the small Vatopedi village testify about the beauties and diversity of Sithonia.
