Nea Potidea is a seaside town right at the entrance to Kassandra, about 65 km from Thessaloniki, where a canal separates the peninsula from the mainland. Along the canal are the remains of the walls of ancient Potidaea and a marina, and sandy beaches stretch along both sides of the isthmus, some backed by pine forest. The town is quiet and uncrowded, and thanks to its closeness to Thessaloniki and the airport it also works well as a base for exploring all of Halkidiki.
