Sithonia
Sithonia is the middle peninsula of Halkidiki, the sunniest part of northern Greece. It is located between the Kassandra peninsula, which is in the west, and Athos, in the east. It is known for its secluded beaches surrounded by pine forests, small harbors, promenades, gardens around hotel complexes, small fishing villages, rich nightlife. It is more hilly than Kassandra and is known for the production of excellent wine, honey and olive oil. The biggest doubt of our travelers is which part of Sithonia to choose for their vacation?! Whichever part of Sithonia you choose, you will see beautiful golden sandy beaches in mysterious bays, with crystal clear water, above which descend slopes full of pine forests. After the town of Nikiti you come across the intersection for the east and west side of Sithonia. You turn left if you go to Vourvourou, Sarti and Sikia - the eastern part, and right if you go to Neos Marmaras and Toroni, the western part of Sithonia. Let's go in order, the first place we come across is:
Agios Nikolaos
The place is about 110 km from Thessaloniki and is located at the point where the Sithonia peninsula begins. With more than thirty kilometers of clean beaches, with beautiful picturesque bays and very clear sea, this stretch is truly something special. Today, with a permanent population of 2,500 inhabitants who are engaged in the production of pure and well-known products of this place: wine, tsipoura, oil, honey, fish, and most of all they are engaged in tourism. In the central square of the village, where past and present meet, visitors can enjoy a good meal with the traditional natural tsipouro of Agios Nikolaos. You can also enjoy the magic that reigns in this square during the three-day cultural celebration of the Agia Paraskevi festival, which reaches its peak on July 26. Visitors can feel the spirit of the past and enjoy the enchanting hospitality of the hosts. Traditional Greek evenings are organized every Friday in the square, and see more about it here. The smaller port of Ormos Panagias is only 2.5 km from Agios Nikolaos and daily tours of the Athos peninsula, as well as trips to the island of Amuliani, depart from here.
Vourvoor
It is about 110 kilometers from Thessaloniki. Vourvuru resort is characterized by small rocky islands, caves, clear sea, sandy beaches and forest areas. Also, the town itself does not have a center and a classic promenade, and the road branches off into the main street of Vourvuru and follows the coast. On the left side of the road are various villas, apartments and studios located right on the beach and each of them has its own part of the beach. And on the right side there are various facilities on offer, with the difference that you have to cross the road to the beach. Opposite the town there are several islands, the most famous of which is Diaporos. There you will encounter the purest turquoise color of the sea, and you can also discover the most beautiful and isolated beaches of Halkidiki. In the evening, you can enjoy the restaurants located right on the coast and enjoy the magnificent view.
Sarti
Sarti is a resort located 140 kilometers from Thessaloniki. The beach in Sarti is spacious, with beautiful small pebbles and it is easily reached by neat and well-maintained streets. It stretches along the entire length of the resort, and the surroundings are full of real little natural gems - beautiful little coves and beaches surrounded by forest. From the beach there is an enchanting view of the bay of Mount Athos and the outlines of the peaks of Mount Athos. Here the waves can sometimes be really big, when swimming is not recommended for poor swimmers and children.
Sikia
South of Sarti is the town of Sikia, which consists of two parts - the inland village and the beach of Paralia Sikia. It is one of the oldest villages in Halkidiki. The place is about 150 kilometers from Thessaloniki and has about 3 thousand inhabitants. It is located about 3 km from the sea coast, but also includes an area of several beaches nearby. There are bakeries, shops, there is no representative promenade, and for larger supplies you should go to Sarti. Accommodation prices are lower than in other parts of Sithonia, so if the distance of the apartment from the sea is not important to you, and you want to spend less on accommodation, maybe Sikia will be the right choice for you and your family. Sikia is a quiet place for true nature lovers.
Kalamici
The southernmost resort on the eastern coast of Sithonia is Kalamitsi. It is a small, quiet place for family vacations located on the southeastern side of the Sithonia peninsula, about 150 kilometers from Thessaloniki. It is a beautiful bay, protected from waves and winds, with a wide sandy beach, far from noise and nightlife. A quiet town, without much going on, with several houses, cafes and restaurants, ideal for parents and children to enjoy. You won't find a lot of supermarkets, souvenir shops and clothing stores in this place. If your priority is vacation, away from noise, traffic and crowds, then Kalamici is the place for you. The beach is nice, there are umbrellas and sunbeds around the cafe, which you use for free if you order a drink. The sand is fine and soft, and the water is clear, with a gradual transition to depth.
